This READ ME file alerts you to changes in the software or late-breaking information that was too late to include in the manual. Please read this file before you begin installing the software. We also recommend that you print this document for easy reference and keep it with your documentation.

What’s new in Graphics System Software 1.68 disk?

1. RasterOps Monitor Extension 1.68 has added support for PaintBoard Turbo and RasterOps 24MxRGB. RasterOps Monitor Extension 1.67 (never released) addressed a compatibility issue with Shiva EtherPort II board. If a NuBus™ board has a vendorInfo field but no revision number, a bus error would be generated in version 1.66 or earlier.
2. ScreenShift 1.5 has added support for PaintBoard Turbo and RasterOps 24MxRGB. ScreenShift 1.4 (never released) has added support for Macintosh Quadra™ and Centris™ built-in video. Because of timing differences between RasterOps’ monitors and the output from the Quadra or Centris built-in video, adjustments can be made to center the video display. More information is available in the ScreenShift READ ME file.
3. SyncCamera 1.5 has added support for PaintBoard Turbo and RasterOps 24MxRGB.

Changes In RasterOps Monitor Extension functionality in version 1.66 and later

(Applicable if a system contains multiple RasterOps Monitor Extension-compatible display adapters.)
1. The Zoom In/Out features will now function only on the screen where the cursor is.
2. When the Pan/Zoom controls (e.g., Zoom In/Out keys, Enable/Disable Zoom, etc.) are modified, the same changes will apply to ALL display adapters at the same time.

System Requirements

The RasterOps Monitor Extension runs on any Macintosh® II, Macintosh Quadra™, Centris™, Performa™, or PowerBook™ computer equipped with NuBus expansion slots and a RasterOps display adapter that supports pan/zoom and extended desktops. System 6.0.3 or later and 32-Bit QuickDraw™ are required. Please note that 32-Bit QuickDraw is automatically installed as part of System 7.
The RasterOps Monitors Extension is not applicable for the following boards, as they do not support the pan, zoom, and extended desktop options:

Installing the RasterOps Monitor Extension software

• System 7 Users

To install the RasterOps Monitor Extension software, copy the file named “RasterOps Monitor Extension” on the RasterOps Graphics System Software disk to the System Folder of your startup drive. System 7 will automatically install the extension in the Control Panels folder. You must reboot your machine for the extension to take affect. Please refer to your RasterOps display board user’s guide for further instructions on using the pan & zoom, and extended desktop options, setting the number of colors, menu bar placement, etc.
• System 6 Users

1. Install 32-bit QuickDraw.
If you have a Macintosh IIci, IIsi, IIfx, LC or LC II, please skip to step #2. You do not have to install Apple’s 32-bit QuickDraw as it is already incorporated in the Macintosh ROMs.
If you are using a Macintosh II, IIx, or IIcx AND System 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, copy all the files from the “32-Bit QuickDraw 1.0” folder on the RasterOps Graphics System Software disk to the System Folder of your startup drive.
If you are using a Macintosh II, IIx, or IIcx AND System 6.0.5, or later, but you have not installed 32-bit QuickDraw, install 32-bit QuickDraw using ONE of the following methods:
a) Use the custom installation procedure with the Apple Installer program that came with your System Software to install 32-bit QuickDraw,
or
b) Copy the “32-bit QuickDraw” file from the Apple Color folder on the Printing Tools disk to the System Folder of your startup drive,
or
c) Copy all the files from the “32-Bit QuickDraw 1.2” folder on the RasterOps Graphics System Software disk to the System Folder of your startup drive.
2. Copy the file named “RasterOps Monitors Extension” on the RasterOps Graphics System Software disk to the System Folder of your startup drive.
3. Reboot your machine for the extension to take affect.
4. Please refer to your RasterOps display board user’s guide for further instructions on using the pan & zoom, and extended desktop options, setting the number of colors, menu bar placement, etc.
• NOTES
1. The features of the RasterOps Monitors Extension are accessible via the Options button in the Monitors control panel. For System 7 users, double-clicking on the RasterOps Monitors Extension icon will generate the following error message:
Ignore this message and click OK.
For the techies out there, the Monitors extension specifications from Apple requires the extension to be identified as a “cdev” so that any INIT resource in the extension will get run as necessary. The RasterOps Monitor Extension is not a real “cdev” however, which is why you get the error dialog.
2. You must have ONLY one copy of “RasterOps Monitors Extension” file in your System Folder of your startup drive. If you are installing more than one RasterOps board, always use the latest version of the “RasterOps Monitors Extension” file.
